Water tanker systems often require to be operated whilst driving in order to wash down roads, dust reduction, asset watering etc. The main problem with dynamic water systems utilising a gear pump (fixed displacement pump) is water flow increases with engine RPM/road speed. In some cases, this may not be too much of problem provided that the engine RPM is kept within a specified range.

For the majority of water tank systems, a variable displacement pump incorporating a flow control valve provides a fixed flow regardless of engine RPM/road speed. An advantage of this system means the operator does not have to worry about maintaining correct engine/road speeds.
